AIP Hosts Virtual Booth at STEM Expo, SciFest All Access

News Release

The virtual STEM expo booth will feature materials from AIP and its member societies for students, families, and educators

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 25, 2020 -- The American Institute of Physics and its member societies will be offering a virtual scientific experience at the SciFest All Access showcase, an all-ages virtual STEM expo, from Sept. 26 to Oct. 3, globally accessible at any time.

The free event is this year’s alternative to the biennial USA Science & Engineering Festival, which was scheduled for April but was canceled in favor of an online event due to COVID-19 concerns. SciFest All Access will include hands-on and interactive STEM content and live shows for students, families, and educators.

“Those who come to the expo will be able to learn how fireworks shapes are created in the sky, go on a historic cosmic journey through space, and get to read about superheroes who use the powers of light and sound to save the day,” said Wendy Beatty, AIP’s director of media services. “We’ve got something for everyone, no matter what part of the world or time zone you’re in!”

AIP’s booth, “The AIP Science Circus,” features materials from the Acoustical Society of America, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, the American Physical Society, the Optical Society, and the Society of Rheology as well as AIP itself. The booth provides a wide range of activities, from science coloring books to online wave simulators and everything in between.

One of the videos in the AIP Science Circus will be a part of a scavenger hunt across the event designed to encourage students to engage with the various facets of STEM.

“I’m really excited and glad that SciFest All Access, and the AIP virtual booth specifically, will give kids a small taste of how much variety there is within science, from physics to acoustics to optics to rheology and beyond,” said Keeta Jones, education and outreach coordinator at ASA. “I want kids to find something in STEAM to really get into and explore.”

SciFest All Access is a free event, but attendees must register in advance. Registration and other information can be found at https://usasciencefestival.org/scifest/.
