Scott Montgomery steps in as new CCO, leads content initiatives at AIP

Scott MontgomeryWASHINGTON, April 11, 2022 – The American Institute of Physics is pleased to announce Scott Montgomery as its chief content officer, moving from his interim role to a full-time position, effective April 1, 2022.

Montgomery joined AIP as the interim CCO in August 2021 to help the institute develop a content strategy, understand the key audiences, and manage engagement across the physical sciences community and beyond.

"I love AIP's sense of purpose among the staff, and I deeply respect their drive to contribute to the advancement of the physical sciences," Montgomery said. "We have all the ingredients we need to push that mission forward in the digital world, and I'm delighted to play a part in making that happen."

Going forward, Montgomery will oversee all content and marketing areas at AIP. With over half of the full team involved in the development of content, creating the new role of chief content officer was integral to the continued success of AIP.

"The job of the CCO is to bring a strategic, results-oriented approach to content initiatives across AIP," said Michael Moloney, CEO of AIP. "I am excited that Scott will establish a product development structure, allowing us to thoughtfully improve existing product lines and create new ones. And he will lead our efforts to develop a new, tailored digital experience for AIP's distinct audiences."

During his first eight months at AIP, Montgomery took a high-level, holistic approach to how the institute's content ties to AIP's larger, strategic goals. He feels confident AIP will be well-positioned to thrive in the digital environment, meeting stakeholders' needs and helping them to succeed.

Montgomery steps into the full-time CCO role with a plethora of experience. His previous positions include editor-in-chief/CCO for Education Week, managing editor for digital news at NPR, editor-in-chief of Roll Call, and managing editor of CQ Weekly at Congressional Quarterly, and he led the team that invented the fact-checking website Politifact.com, which won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting.
