Notes
A major source of strength in physics at the University of California at Santa Barbara is the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP), which is distinct from the physics department. Founded as the Institute for Theoretical Physics in 1979, it became part of the network of Kavli Institutes of the Kavli Foundation in 2002.
