Apply for The AIP State Department Science Fellowship

To apply, candidates should submit the materials requested below. All application materials must be submitted by November 1 of the year prior to the Fellowship term that is being applied for. Fellowship terms generally begin in the early Fall, and are for twelve months. Finalists will be interviewed in person several months after the November 1 deadline, usually early in the next year. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

You will then be given an email address to submit your letter of intent and resume. You will also be given instructions for arranging submission of three letters of reference.

1. LETTER OF INTENT AND RESUME

Please send an e-mail to scipolicyfellows@aip.org and, as separate attachments, in Word, please submit your letter of intent and your resume. In the subject line, please state AIP State Department Fellowship.

Your Letter of intent should be limited to 2 pages, and provide information regarding:

  • reason for applying
  • scientific training and professional background
  • foreign policy interest and experience
  • attributes and experience that would make the applicant effective in this position.
Your resume should be limited to 2 pages, with up to one additional page allowed for a list of key publications.

2. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

Additionally, please arrange for three recommendation letters to be submitted directly by your references to scipolicyfellows@aip.org . The letters should be from those having direct knowledge of the applicant's character, professional competence, and particular attributes or experience that would enhance the candidate's suitability for this position. The subject line or body of the message should indicate the name of the applicant on whose behalf the letter is submitted, and the letter should be attached in Word.
