FY 2012 Appropriations for Department of Defense Science and Technology Programs

Congress and the President have agreed on a final FY 2012 appropriations bill.  H.R. 2055 combines nine funding bills, and is accompanied by House Report 112-331.  This 1,385 page report contains the bill language and a second section with the appropriators’ recommendations. See page 671 for the funding levels for various defense science and technology programs and report language on specific programs.

Total 6.1 Basic Research

The FY 2010 appropriation was $1,814.7 million
The FY 2012 request was $2,078.5 million
The FY 2012 appropriation is $2,116.5 million, an increase of $301.8 million or 16.6 percent

Total 6.2 Applied Research

The FY 2010 appropriation was $4,984.1 million
The FY 2012 request was $4,687.3 million
The FY 2012 appropriation is $4,748.4 million, a decrease of $235.7 million or 4.7 percent

Total 6.3 Advanced Technology Research

The FY 2010 appropriation was $6,506.9 million.
The FY 2012 request was $5,481.2 million
The FY 2012 appropriation is $5,573.3 million, a decrease of $933.6 million or 14.3 percent

 

Total Army 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3

The FY 2010 appropriation was $3,108.0 million
The FY 2012 request was $2,283.0 million
The FY 2012 appropriation is $2,529.8 million, a decrease of $578.2 million or 18.6 percent

Total Navy 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3

The FY 2010 appropriation was $2,113.5 million
The FY 2012 request was $2,009.4 million
The FY 2012 appropriation is $2,122.3 million, an increase of $8.8 million or 0.4 percent

Total Air Force 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3

The FY 2010 appropriation was $2,440.8 million
The FY 2012 request was $2,286.2 million
The FY 2012 appropriation is $2,378.7 million, a decrease of $62.1 million or 2.5 percent

Total Defense-Wide 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3 (DARPA,etc.)

The FY 2010 appropriation was $5,643.6 million
The FY 2012 request was $5,668.4 million
The FY 2012 appropriation is $5,407.4 million, a decrease of $236.2 million or 4.2 percent
