Listening for Tornadoes
Infrasound Reveals Twisters Hundreds of Miles Away
A physicist is using the science of acoustics to measure infrasound waves and pinpoint tornadoes. A group of strategically-placed sensors pick up infrasound waves. This information is relayed to a computer that calculates the position of the sound the location of the tornado.
