Michael A. Tamor

Michael TamorMike Tamor received his B.S. in Physics from UCLA in 1977, and his PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1982. In late 1982 he joined the Physics Department of the Scientific Research Laboratory of Ford Motor Company. From 1982 to 1988 Dr. Tamor worked on synthesis and characterization of a variety of semiconductor systems for optical detectors and photovoltaic applications. In 1988 he initiated a project in synthesis and characterization of chemical vapor deposited superhard films for use in manufacturing tools and automotive components.

In 1994 he joined the Alternative Power Source Technology Department to work on hybrid electric vehicle system analysis and optimization. In 1995 he was named the Project Leader for HEV System Design and Development, where he was responsible for coordinating propulsion system development for several hybrid vehicle projects. In 2000 he was simultaneously promoted to Corporate Technical Specialist in the area of hybrid electric vehicle systems and appointed Manager of the Vehicle Electronic Systems Department at Ford Research Laboratory.

In early 2003, this department was merged into Ford Sustainable Mobility Technologies (formerly Th!nk) and renamed Propulsion System Engineering. PSE is responsible for long-range research in advanced propulsion and vehicle control systems. This includes development of modeling tools for concept assessment and controls design, development of concept demonstration vehicles incorporating advanced propulsion and control concepts, and direct support to product programs and corporate strategic technology planning.

In 2005 Dr. Tamor was appointed Executive Technical Leader for Hybrid Vehicle and Fuel Cell Research. Dr. Tamor has published over 60 refereed journal articles, authored chapters in four books and holds twenty-five patents with several others pending.
