Director, Informatics and ProductionThe American Institute of Physics (AIP) is a non-profit corporation chartered in 1931 to advance and diffuse the knowledge of physics and its application to human welfare. A pioneer in digital publishing, AIP is also one of the world's largest publishers of physics journals and produces the publications of more than 25 scientific and engineering societies through its New York-based publishing division. AIP's online platform (Scitation) hosts almost 2,000,000 articles from more than 200 scholarly publications for 30 learned society publishers, in fields including physics, chemistry, geoscience, engineering, acoustics and more. AIP seeks a highly experienced individual to be responsible for the successful development of a new Informatics and Production capability at AIP Publishing designed to take AIP from being more than a "PDF warehouse" to a semantic publisher. The Director, Informatics & Production will be responsible for the management, development and implementation of Mark Logic and other software, systems and processes to provide scientific content that is well structured and tagged using XML to its fullest capabilities. This will allow AIP to create and develop new products and services to enhance the reader experience. The role also oversees production and manufacturing (currently 350,000 pages per annum) comprised of strategic supplier management, procurement, workflow process improvement and enhancement, productivity and cost management. Candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in business; MBA preferred. A minimum of ten years management experience required with proven track record of running high-performing in publishing environments. Must have experience in managing change initiatives with focus on customer, quality, cost and delivery.
